Manikarnika is located within Kashi, meaning the City of Light. This is a city older than time, mentioned as Kashi, Avimukta, and Anandavana in the Rg Veda, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Puranas and other ancient texts. It is a place where Vishnu HIMSELF performed austerities to propitiate Shiva. When Vishnu's tapasya successfully completed the boon he asked for and received was that Kashi be the one place that does not dissolve during the Pralaya, or Final Dissolution of the Universe. The Navratri is followed by Vijaya Dashami—the Day of Victory on the 10th Day, celebrating DEVI MAA's Victory over the Ego. This is a Most Auspicious Time of Immense Shakti, where MAA's Energy is overwhelmingly available making the effects of sadhana during this time a thousand fold.
